Minecraft Maker's Newest Game Mixes Cliffs, Horses And Dogecoin

Markus "Notch" Persson is mostly known as the creator behind Minecraft, but he's quickly making a name for himself with his quirky games that cover everything from speed typing to existential drama. If there's any doubt, you just have to look at his latest title, Cliffhorse. It's as absurd as the title suggests -- you play the role of a horse that is pushing a huge ball over the cliffs, but there's no any more to it than that. The point is not the barely-there design, which took just two hours to create. Persson describes the Windows-only game as a jab at developers who abuse early access programs by charging money for "minimum effort" releases, in which the majority of the content is expected to come later. He is aware of the irony given that he paid for Minecraft long before it was completed.

In case the absurdity of the project wasn't patently clear, Notch is only accepting voluntary Dogecoin donations for payment; you can download Cliffhorse completely free of charge in the event that you like. It's a good thing there's no profit model as there are no guarantees of future updates. Persson's parody might not be enough to make you want to give him virtual money. Still, the launch may be beneficial if it convinces some developers to put in some more effort before they ask users to pay.
